Staff will be returning to work at the Toronto Zoo Tuesday to get ready for its reopening on Thursday following a month-long strike over job security concerns.

The zoo’s management board and more than 400 unionized workers, including zookeepers and maintenance staff, have all ratified a new four-year collective agreement.

Members of CUPE Local 1600 ratified the agreement on Sunday. The Toronto Zoo Board of Management announced Monday that it too had ratified the accord.

During the strike, management staff have been caring for the zoo’s 5,000 animals.
