Police identify victim in one of two overnight shootings

Police have identified the victim who was killed in one of two separate overnight shootings.

In the first, police were called to a residential area on Blue Haven Crescent near Finch and Islington avenues around 2:30 a.m. where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.

He was pronounced dead on the scene. The man has been identified as 20-year-old Soumik Asgar from Toronto.

Police believe there was someone else in the car at time of the shooting who fled the scene before police arrived. Investigators say they are no longer looking for this person, initially believed to be a possible witness.

No further details or suspect information has been released.

In the second shooting, a man in his 30s was seriously injured following a shooting in the Pearl and John streets area around 2:40 a.m.

The victim was taken to a trauma center with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

Police say they are looking for two suspects, however, there is no description at this time.
