A Pickering man faces several charges in the hit-and-run death of a construction worker in Scarborough last year.
The 41-year-old victim was working at the corner of Eglinton and Midland avenues when a white BMW struck him around 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 12, 2016. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle took off and the BMW was found abandoned a few blocks away.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said the driver was fleeing police when he allegedly struck the worker.
Jovon Henry, 28, is facing six charges including criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.
Toronto police arrested him on Jan. 6 and but only made it public on Wednesday. He appeared in court on the day of his arrest.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
