A veteran Peel Regional police Sergeant has been charged with assault following an incident that occurred at 22 Division in December 2015.
Sergeant Jeff Jones is facing one count of assault.
Peel police tell CityNews the alleged victim, who was in custody at the time, suffered minor injuries that didn’t require hospitalization.
The alleged assault came to the attention of Peel police Chief Jennifer Evans, who ordered the internal investigation which resulted in the charge.
In a release, Peel police said Chief Evans is “committed to holding officers accountable for their actions in order to maintain the trust that the community places in the Peel Regional Police.”
Jones has been suspended with pay since the onset of the investigation.
