Fire at city operations yard causes $5 to $10 million in damage

At least two dozen fire trucks were brought in to battle a blaze at a City of Toronto operations yard in Scarborough early Tuesday morning.

According to Toronto Fire Services, the blaze occurred at a yard on Ellesmere Road, west of Midland Avenue. The fire caused an estimated $5 to $10 million in damage.

The fire began around 2 a.m. The building houses maintenance vehicles as well as training and administration facilities.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. A pickup truck and a garbage truck in the building were completely destroyed, and crews at the scene believe the fire may have started in one of the vehicles.
