A Toronto police sergeant has been charged with assault for an incident in a Scarborough parking lot last Halloween.
According to the province’s Special Investigation’s Unit, shortly after 4 a.m. on Oct. 31, a 47-year-old man drove his vehicle into a parking lot at 10 Gordonridge Place, near Danforth Road and Midland Avenue.
Moments later, a police cruiser entered the parking lot and stopped behind the man’s vehicle.
The SIU said an interaction took place between the officer and the man, after which the officer left the scene.
The man was later taken to Scarborough General Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The SIU said their investigation, including video evidence and 911 call recordings, led them to charge Sgt. Robert Goudie with assault causing bodily harm and failure to provide the necessaries of life.
Sgt. Goudie is expected to appear in court next month.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
