York regional police have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with a sexual assault that took place on New Year’s Day in Newmarket.

The alleged incident happened as an 18-year-old woman was walking from the GO bus terminal on a pathway near Davis Drive shortly before 3 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Investigators say that’s when she was approached by a man who allegedly grabbed her, forced her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

Earlier this week, police released a composite sketch of the suspect.

Kevin Wyatt, from Newmarket, was arrested at his home on Friday and charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
