Woman on mobility scooter struck & killed in east-end crash

A 56-year-old woman on a scooter was instantly killed when she was struck by a big rig at Gerrard Street East and Carlaw Avenue in Toronto’s east end on Tuesday morning.

The collision happened around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

The woman was hit by the tractor-trailer as it made a wide turn onto Carlaw.

The driver, a 42-year-old man, is cooperating with the investigation. So far there’s no word on possible charges.

Witnesses say other vehicles were honking their horns, trying to alert the truck driver to the impending collision, but he didn’t react in time.
