Jane’s Walk: With the mercury finally hovering around 20 C this weekend, why not join one of the many Jane’s Walks happening around Toronto. Named after the urbanist and activist Jane Jacobs who was instrumental in preventing the Spadina Expressway, the walks feature abandoned properties in Parkdale, the greenbelt along the Don River and underground Toronto, among many other ones. Contact Photography Festival: More than 1,000 artists exhibit their photographic work in Toronto during the 17th Contact photo festival throughout May. Notable exhibits to catch this weekend include Sebastiao Salgado’s Genesis at the ROM, Collected Shadows, an archive of modern conflict, at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art and Light My Fire at the AGO featuring some of the gallery’s portraiture collection. Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup: Learn about shorelines while picking up litter to help keep Lake Ontario clean during the annual spring Shoreline Cleanup.
