A cyclist is in hospital after being hit by a car around 1 p.m. Saturday.
The driver said he was turning right onto Steeles Avenue East from the southbound lanes of Warden when the incident happened.
The cyclist, a man in his 60s, was taken to Sunnybrook hospital with non-life-threatening head injuries.
Police have not said whether they plan to lay charges.

So the big question is why did the driver fail to notice the bike before starting to turn right?
Scarborough isn’t very bicycle friendly for those riding on the roads, I’ve only started to see bicycle lanes pop up over the past few years. I know that intersection very well; quite wide but high traffic and high speed limits, cyclists aren’t very safe there unless they ride on the sidewalk which I don’t know what the bylaws entail for that jurisdiction.
Looks like another “Right Hook” situation. Cyclists need to be aware that right turning vehicles have right of way. Drivers need to be aware not all cyclists drive, and are unaware of these “kill zones”. Wake up people!!!
don’t lay charges please; looks like the biker was not so careful; by te way was he wearing a helmet? Not intoxicated we hope…… It should be mandatory to mount down to cross a street + it should be legal to ride a bike on the sidewalks (for the cyclists extra safety), giving always priority to pedestrians…..
“don’t lay charges please” No need to lay charges. Instead just put the driver on a bike and let what goes around comes around. Even if the driver gets away with this legally (as most of society being drivers is sympathetic and not sympathethic to the small minority of people who ride a bike and also drivers tend to be richer than bikers and hence more powerful too), why do you think that everyday thousands of drivers are killed all over the world in 200 countries? Bicycle deaths are only a small fraction of that. Back to my question: why do you think that everyday thousands of drivers are killed all over the world in 200 countries? The answer is simple :- What goes around comes around!
