Tim Hortons coffee chain brought back their famous ‘Roll Up the Rim to Win’ contest on Monday, offering 40 Toyota RAV4s and 100 prepaid MasterCards worth $5,000 each.
“Roll Up the Rim to Win is our way of thanking our loyal guests each year for making us Canada’s favourite coffee,” Dana Brochu, category brand director of coffee and tea, said in a statement.
“Nearly eight of every 10 cups of brewed coffee poured in Canada are purchased at Tim Hortons, and that’s something worth celebrating with our guests.”

Other prizes on offer this year include 1,000 Napoleon gourmet grills, 25,000 Tim Cards woth $100 Tim Cards each, and millions of coffee and food prizes.
But what happens if the winning cup was purchased as a gift?
“It’s a Canadian tradition to treat friends to Tim Hortons coffee and with millions of prizes available; there is a chance that coffee rolls up to something more,” Brochu said.
“Our survey showed that etiquette varies depending on the nature of the prize, but the vast majority of Canadians indicated some reciprocation is in order.”
While not everyone would give back the car – 65 per cent of Canadians surveyed said they would keep the car if treated to the winning coffee by a friend – 73 per cent would treat their friend to a special gift in return for the car.
The contest began Feb. 18 and will run until the supplies run out. Prizes may be claimed until May 19, 2013.
What would you do if your friend bought you a winning cup? Let us know in the comments.

Tims is hit and miss when it comes to getting a good coffee,,,I actually handed one back once and told them it wasn’t drinkable.
So exciting. I’m already waiting in line at the local Tim Hortons for my chance to win a free doughnut. Please let us know when McDonald’s start their Monopoly game, so I can rush out and buy a box of Chicken McNuggets.
Should say “Roll up the Rim to LOSE”. Even country style makes EVERY cup a winner. EVERY. CUP. Tim’s should thank us by doing the same. Last year I couldn’t even win a coffee for 3 weeks of the stupid deal. No fun.
Your comment makes you sound like a big whiny baby. Why does this society think they are entitled to “free” things? You buy the coffee or tea anyway, if you win, bonus.. if not, oh well!
What’s up with the grammar in the title, “being”. Keep up the good work CityNews
so i wonder how much the news channel is making to showcase this – i think this may have an interest for unfair competition and i do not see other coffee houses being able to advertise their promotions on here?
WHY is this making ‘news’? good god.
