Monopoly fans have had their say and the answer is a resounding meow.
A cat will replace the iron as a game piece in new editions of the popular Hasbro board game, the company announced Wednesday.
Fans were asked to vote online for the new piece, choosing among a diamond ring, guitar, robot, cat or helicopter.
Through the Save Your Token campaign, fans could also vote to keep the wheelbarrow, shoe or iron – but the iron was flattened by the competition.
The eight tokens are now the cat, wheelbarrow, shoe, race car, top hat, thimble, Scottie dog and battleship. New editions of the game will be released in late summer.
There is already a cat-lover’s edition of the popular board game, where the tokens include a scratching post, a mouse, a sleeping cat, a milk bottle, a can of tuna and a fish.

So the old version of the game with the iron will now become a “collector’s item”, worth thousands of dollars? Not really, but let me look around in the basement anyway. I think there’s one of those old games down there somewhere.
If you have the real board game, and not the computer version, why would you need to buy a special edition just to have different tokens? You can go to your local dollar store and buy a bag of little plastic toys to replace the tokens. You could even make yourself a dinosaur version of monopoly.
