Stunt driving, speeding charges for driver clocked doing 175km/h on QEW

A 20-year-old man is facing a stunt driving charge after police clocked him travelling 75 km/h over the posted speed limit on the QEW — the second alleged incident of excessive speeding in the GTA in as many days.

Police say they caught the man driving 175 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the eastbound QEW at Dixie Road in Mississauga just after 2 a.m. Thursday.

The driver, whose name hasn’t been released, is charged with stunt driving and speeding. His 2013 Hyundai Accent has been impounded and his driver’s licence has been suspended for a week.

Just over 24 hours earlier, officers stopped a 2008 Honda Civic on the eastbound Gardiner Expressway at Islington Avenue. The car was clocked doing 187 km/h in a 100 km/h zone around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday.

The 22-year-old male driver was charged with stunt driving and speeding. His licence and vehicle were also taken away for a week.

Toronto police say 381 suspensions for speeding and stunt driving were handed out last year.
