Police arrested a driver after a pedestrian was killed Thursday evening.

The driver, a woman in her 20s, allegedly ran over the victim on Old Guelph Road near Patterson Avenue around 6:30 p.m.

She told nearby residents, who called an ambulance.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the man unconscious underneath the car. They tried to revive him, but he died at the scene.

Police have not yet released his identity as they are notifying next-of-kin, but they say he lived in Hamilton and is also in his 20s.

The driver is in custody and both the reconstruction team and the criminal investigation bureau are probing the case. An autopsy will be performed on Friday.

Officers said the road would be closed for most of Friday morning.
