A man was arrested after trying to evade officers during a police car chase and a foot pursuit near the town of Ingersoll in Oxford County Tuesday morning.

OPP officers started tracking a stolen Jeep Cheroke around 2 a.m. on Highway 3 near Tilsonburg. Police tried to end the chase, which reached speeds up to 160 km/h,  by using spike belts on Plank Line Road at Mount Elgin Road, but the suspect driver evaded the belt and then hit a tractor-trailer.

The Jeep then hit a cruiser before coming to a stop. The suspect — the only person in the vehicle — was ejected. He then jumped up and took off on foot.

Officers tracked him down a short time later and he was taken to hospital as a precaution. He’s said to have minor injuries.

The tractor-trailer driver wasn’t seriously hurt.

There’s no word on charges.
