The OSPCA is investigating after a five-month-old kitten was beaten and left for dead last month just west of downtown Toronto.

Angel was left in a carrier outside a fast food restaurant at Bathurst and Dundas streets in November.

The kitten was found and taken to Special Ones Cat Rescue in Burlington.

Veterinarians determined she suffered a broken spine and other broken bones caused by being kicked and beaten.

Angel requires thousands of dollars in surgery and daily pain medication.

The OSPCA told CityNews it gets 16,000 cases of animal abuse each year.

The kitten case was the second incident of cruelty reported by Toronto media in the past few weeks. Panda, a feral cat, was paralyzed after being shot by a pellet gun near Gerrard Street East and Broadview Avenue on Nov. 27.

On Friday, the body of a miniature pinscher puppy was found in Deer Wood Park in Mississauga. Peel police believe the dog was burned and beaten to death.
