A 30-year-old man was found shot to death in North York early Sunday.

Det. Sheila Ogg with Toronto Homicide told CityNews emergency crews responded to a call just after 7 a.m. and attended a residence near Keele Street and Wilson Avenue, where they found the victim.

“When officers arrived they found the male VSA, suffering from obvious signs of trauma,” she said.

Family members identified the victim as Edwin Carpio, of Ajax who was a father of one.

“He’s a young guy, working hard, trying to make a better life for his mom and his family in the states,” his cousin Barbara told CityNews.

She said Carpio was in Toronto attending a party.

Ogg said the residence was operating as a “booze can” and there were six to 10 patrons present at the time of the shooting. None of the patrons stayed on scene when police arrived.

Police believe the victim was a patron at the establishment.

So far there’s no word on suspects or arrests.

Officers are in the process of gathering security footage of the area from surrounding businesses.
