Not that it came as a surprise, but People magazine has officially named actor Channing Tatum as its “Sexiest Man Alive” for 2012.

This year, Tatum, 32, starred in the semi-autobiographical film Magic Mike, about a male stripper just entering the business. He’ll appear next in Foxcatcher, due out in 2013, which also stars Steve Carell and Mark Rufalo.

This is Tatum’s first “Sexist Man Alive” title. He now joins the ranks of Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper and Matt Damon.

People made the announcement Wednesday. The magazine also noted Tatum’s love of giving massages to his wife, actress Jenna Dewan, his eagerness to start a family and the fact he’s known to quote Edgar Allan Poe. He also likes to sculpt.
