Two people are dead following a house fire in Mount Brydges, near London, Ont., Strathroy-Caradoc Police tell CityNews.

The fire began around 3 a.m. on Saturday in the lower level of a two-storey rental unit on Railroad Street, deputy chief Mark Campbell said.

A 41-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were killed. Police have not released the names of the victims because their next-of-kin has not yet been notified.

Two other people were home in the upper unit at the time. They called 911 after smelling smoke and were not injured.

The fire is not considered suspicious at this point, police said. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
