Toronto Hydro shut power to part of midtown Friday to make repairs to an underground cable vault damaged by a fire.

The utility initially said about 40 buildings near Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue, in an area bounded by Duplex Avenue to the west, Bayview Avenue to the east, Broadway Avenue to the north and Soudan Avenue to the south, would be affected.

Later, Toronto Hydro said only a few buildings along Eglinton would have their power shut off.

Around 2:30 p.m., Toronto Hydro said that they had “found a way to complete repairs where power to customers will not be affected.”
