As Hurricane Sandy approached the U.S. Eastern Seaboard on Oct. 29, thousands of people scrambled to stock up on drinking water and canned goods.

The same thing was seen in the past as these superstorms have left people stranded and without power or provisions, sometimes for days.

But more people are beginning to plan ahead to avoid the long lines and empty shelves that appear when these natural disasters happen.
