A woman’s torso that was spotted by tourists in the Niagara River on Aug. 29 has been identified as that of Loretta Gates, 30, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., New York State Police tells CityNews.

Her death is being treated as a homicide.

Gates, a single mother of three, was last seen on Aug. 25 in the area of Main Street and Niagara Avenue.

She was reported missing by family on Sept. 4.

Gates was positively identified through DNA testing on Friday.

On her Facebook page, Gates said “im getting my life together for my 3 children I love them soso much.”

Her profile also showed that she was engaged on Aug. 20 and worked as a supervisor at a model agency in Cheektowaga, near Buffalo.

Later Friday, Niagara police revealed that more body parts, an arm and a leg, were recovered from the lower Niagara River. A fisherman spotted them on Thursday night.

The body parts have been sent to Hamilton’s pathology unit. Police say it’s too soon to link them to the death of Gates.
