Marvel Comics’ first openly gay superhero is set to marry his longtime boyfriend this summer.

The speedster Northstar, otherwise known as Jean-Paul Beaubier, will wed Kyle Jinadu in the pages of “Astonishing X-Men” No. 51, which is set for release on June 20.

The Canadian character first revealed he was gay in “Alpha Flight” No. 106 in 1992 – becoming one of Marvel’s first characters to make the declaration.

Some comic book retailers are even planning wedding parties on June 20, to celebrate the pair’s union.

“The Marvel Universe has always reflected the world outside your window, so we strive to make sure our characters, relationships and stories are grounded in that reality,” said Axel Alonso, Marvel Editor in Chief. “We’ve been working on this story for over a year to ensure Northstar and Kyle’s wedding reflects Marvel’s ‘world outside your window’ tradition.”

In 2002, gay character Apollo and the Midnighter were wed in “The Authority” published by DC’s Wildstorm imprint.

Other gay and lesbian comic book characters include DC Comics’ Kate Kane, aka Batwoman, and Hulkling and Wiccan from the “Young Avengers.”
