Mayor Rob Ford has instructed his lawyers to suspend legal proceedings, Thursday, around a request from two electors for an audit of his election campaign finances.

Ford has said the audit will proceed immediately.

The Mayor’s lawyers had initially appealed a decision by the city’s compliance audit committee to go ahead with it and requested that the court conduct a new hearing under the Municipal Elections Act.

A judge, who will hear the appeal later this month, has decided that the legislation does not require a new hearing on such appeals.

Ford said that every activity during the campaign was done in good faith with the intention of complying fully with the election law and he promised to co-operate fully with any auditor appointed by the city.
