It’s the first official long weekend of summer and there are a slew of events across the GTA celebrating the Canada’s 144th birthday.

But doors will be shut at several other places. Here’s a look at what you can expect on Friday:

Open:

-Residential garbage, recycling and organics collection will go ahead on the usual Friday schedule;
-stores in designated tourist areas, such as downtown Yonge Street, Yorkville and the Distillery District;
-major malls, including: Eaton Centre, Vaughan Mills, Square One and Pacific Mall;
-city pools and splash pads; and,
-tourist destinations, including the ROM, AGO, CN Tower and Canada’s Wonderland.

Closed:

-Banks;
-government offices;
-city-run daycares;
-beer/LCBO stores;
-Canada Post outlets;
-several grocery stores; and,
-all branches of the Toronto Public Library.

The TTC will be running on a weekend schedule and subway service will start at 6 a.m. Check the TTC’s website for any route changes.

GO Transit will be operating on a Saturday schedule.
