Prime Minister Stephen Harper is stepping back in time. On set, at least.

Harper visited the set of Citytv’s popular drama series, Murdoch Mysteries, with his daughter Rachel, on Friday.  The PM and his family are apparently huge fans of the show.

(clockwise) Rachel Harper (sitting), Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Phil Lind (Vice Chairman, Rogers Communications Inc.), and Christina Jennings (Chairman & CEO, Shaftesbury Films) enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at Shaftesbury Films’ international hit series Murdoch Mysteries airing on Citytv in Canada.

Set in the 1890s, the series is based on Canadian author Maureen Jennings’ Detective Murdoch mystery novels.

The show is currently filming its 4th season and follows the life of William Murdoch (played by Yannick Bisson), a detective who solves crimes by using forensic techniques that were advanced for his time.

The Prime Minister shot a short cameo for the show, which will air as part of season four next year.

Harper also met cast, crew and executives from the show’s production company, Shaftesbury Films, as well as Rogers Media and Citytv.
